Five days in an orphanage

For our care internship Michiel and I worked in an orphanage. In the morning we did some gardening until we got tired and too sweaty of the heat. The children always were very enthusiastic and tried to help were possible. The rest of the day we got the opportunity to play, dance, read and eat with the kids.  It's has been a great experience and wonderful to see so many smiles of different children, you almost forget how terrible it is they lost their parents. Fortunately the orphanage is well organized to give these kids a good life.

Those who know, do. Those that understand, teach.

A famous quote from Archimedes, just to make clear how much I like teaching here. My last two lessons were great! One of my lesson was about equilibrium for the physics students of the RTTC (Regional Teacher Trainer Center). I also got the opportunity to teach in a secundary school (Monivong). I had to teach about electricity and the energy of a battery. Quite ironic if you know there is nowhere electricity in the classrooms here in Cambodia. However it was really fun! One of my students did a great job as a translator and the students where very enthusiastic. They don't have every day a white guy in front of the classroom.
I'm really enjoying my stay in Cambodia, last week we went to a circus with a Canadian couple we got to know here. The circus of Battambang is awesome and I recommend it for sure to everyone!

Almost a month...

A month from home... Every day is a day longer from home I've ever been, quite strange if you put it that way. Although I miss home, my girlfriend and my friends from time to time, the experience only gets bigger!
Last weekend was a calm weekend, we visited a temple in the neighborhood of Battambang. It was a nice temple with a idyllic view. Almost every day you see something strange or something you've never seen before, that is one of the main reasons this experience is so great! Like last weekend, close to our house there was a big specific tractor race in the mud. Sufficient to watch, support and laugh with it :)
Since Sunday the VVOB staff is also in Battambang because their were some workshops organised (example lessons for the trainer teacher, should be very good and well organised lessons). I followed four physics lessons, it's nice to see really motivated local teachers. In the meantime I was working a physics lesson about light refraction that I'll give next Tuesday. Although the week went very fast, I'm very tired. Every week it's getting warmer but we'll get used to it! We also went to a karaoke with some teachers, my first Cambodian-karaoke experience, it was really fun :)

First two lessons!

My first two lessons of physics went well. The principal of the RTTC also visited my lesson. Looking forward to my next lesson!

First week in Battambang

The first week in Battambang was fun. We got to know better the RTTC. I started the preparation for my first  lesson about gravitational acceleration. Today I also observed my first two lessons of the students I'm coaching. The classes are very big here in Cambodia, in every class you can find around 40 till 60 pupils so all the lessons I saw were most of the time chaos, nevertheless the pupils were enthusiastic when they saw a simple physic experiment about static electricity.

The climax from this week was the short visit too the crocodile farm. We could get really close too 249 crocodiles and we were able to make some nice pictures!

Now the weekend starts, were going to rent a motorbike and visit some other cities.

Bye!!

Hello everybody!

We found a new place to stay for two months. It's a typical khmer house, not expensive and close to the RTTC. The house has three bedrooms and a big balcony, perfect to work and to chill outside!

First day in Phnom Penh was great. We went to the RTTC (high school for teachers) and the head office of the VVOB. Ready to start my internship!!
