Working at the orphanage
Last week Simon and I joined in at
the daily life of the sunbeam kids (or at least a part of their day). Everyday
at seven we were present to do some gardening tasks (read: remove big stones
from a future flower bed). At half past
ten it was too hot to work for us so we joined the kids because they get bored
of removing stones after about one hour.
We got lunch quite early but after
the hard work it’s only pleasant to eat a meal containing a big variety of
soups, omelets, beef and fish plates. After lunch we enjoyed playing with the
kids, upgrading our parenting skills.
We had had an awesome five days and
hope we helped the development of the orphanage or at least the garden, a little.
Teaching in Cambodia
Hi everyone,
I thought after two months teaching
in Battambang I’d be able to tell you all about education in Cambodia but I
have to be honest and say I’m not. This got a lot of different reasons. First
of all, when we are teaching at the RTTC, we’re giving our lessons to teacher
trainees. People who want to become a teacher themselves who pay a lot of
attention when you teach them ‘new’ things. Second, when we go to the practice school we
only see Battambangs premium secondary schools.
Due to these facts I’m only able to
give my own experiences about teaching over here. Teaching at the RTTC is very
enjoyable. It’s a little strange to teach with a translator but ones you get
used to it it’s even easier then teaching without because you get a break
during the translation part.
At the secondary school it’s
different. Over there we have a lot more chaos and bigger class groups. Some pictures will tell you all
about it!
Living in Battambang
Hi everyone
As time is
passing by and we are stuck in a whirlwind of events (+ I’m not that much of a
writer), I lost track of the blog little by little. Just to make up for
everyone I’ll add a small list of personal major events and some pictures. They
should be more than enough to do the talking for me!
- The
wonderful time with the students.
- The
nice people we get to know
- The
workshops in Battambang and visit of the VVOB team
- The
lessons at the RTTC
- The
trips in our weekends off.
